Chenoa High School Class of 1962
|
In June of 1962 Dick joined the Air Force. While still in basic training, he was medically discharged due to a knee injury he had sustained years earlier in a bicycle accident. He returned home and began working at Kane Advertising in Bloomington where he worked for several years. In 1965, he married Sue. They purchased a home and settled in Chenoa. Shortly thereafter, Dick assumed the responsibilities as Advertising Manager for Siebert and Sons in Chenoa. While there he befriended another long time Siebert's employee, Jack Kauffman. They decided to form their own advertising firm. They converted Jack's garage into office space and were successful from day one. Within a year they were able to purchase regular office space in Pontiac and were kept busy servicing clients in the Midwest. In 1972 Dick and Sue had a son, Justin. In 1974 they divorced and about the same time Dick and Jack dissolved their business. Dick continued doing freelance advertising work from his home. He met and eventually married Jody in 1975. They settled in Bloomington where the two of them set up yet another advertising agency. Jody bore Dick another son in 1978. In 1980 the second marriage ended as well as Dick learning that a brain tumor had returned. He had originally been diagnosed with a brain tumor in 1965 but within just a few weeks it had dissolved. From that point on, it was a constant downhill struggle. Dick died in the fall of 1988. His two sons still reside in the Bloomington area. Submitted by Mike Hoover |
