December 1, 1944 - February 5, 2001

Jerold Michael Reis, known affectionately as "Jerr" or "Jerry", was born in Santa Monica, California on December 1, 1944. When he was almost two years old, he came to Chenoa with his parents, Hugo and Evy Reis.

Jerry was joined by his brother, Thomas Lee, on November 9, 1949. Growing up, the boys enjoyed all the kids in the Sheridan Street neighborhood, and they both attended Chenoa Grade School and graduated from Chenoa High School. They had fun visiting their grandparents, their aunts and uncles and many cousins in the area. Family values became a part of their lives as they grew up in the Chenoa United Methodist Church.

Jerry attended Bluffton College in Bluffton, Ohio, for a year and a half. During summers he worked as an orderly at Mennonite Hospital in Bloomington, then decided to become a registered nurse. He entered the Mennonite Hospital School of Nursing, with his senior year being paid by the U.S. Army. After graduation he was inducted into the U.S. Army, and after basic training and other places of service here, he was sent to Vietnam for almost two years. Needless to say, he came home a changed person. The Army then sent him to Tacoma, Washington, where he received training as a Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist. This became his career and he was truly dedicated to his work and his patients. His last place of employment was at Elkview Hospital in Hobart, Oklahoma, where he was loved and respected for his abilities in his field.

On February 5, 2001, Jerry suffered a massive heart attack and left this world. He left behind five wonderful children: Paul (an Amerasian that he and Joyce adopted from Vietnam), Shawn, Heather, Jeremy and Megan.
