If you have questions, comments or information about the Munro line, please feel free to e-mail me. The oldest known Munro is William Sr., born 1769 in St. Ninians, Stirling, Scotland. His son, also named William, was the emigrant to America in 1853. William Jr. and his wife Margaret Nicol Munro traveled to America when they were both 40 years old. Their seven children came with them: Elizabeth, 14; Felix, 12; Rosina, 10; Maurice, 8; Edward, 7; William, 4; and Euphemia, almost 2. Margaret was pregnant for the journey and delivered Isabella on September 22, 1853, in Washington, Illinois. We know the family arrived in New York City on July 4, 1853, and purchased 600 acres near Washington, Illinois. Part of their property was near the farm of Alfred Phillips. Alfred Phillips' sixth child was named John Tihlman Phillips. He married Elizabeth Smart Munroe (the spelling of Munro changed in America) on February 28, 1861.
